“Be bold, outgoing and connect with good people.”

Today, we say hello to Dianne Stewart.

Dianne is our HR Partner and helps to support SCOTGRIP® INTERNATIONAL with HR management services through her own business It's a People Business. Today, Dianne talks about working with the SCOTGRIP® INTERNATIONAL team, the new systems and procedures she’s implemented and what she loves most about her job.

Q: How did you get started in your HR career?

DS: It wasn’t a conscious decision to become an HR professional and to be honest I knew very little about this as a career beforehand. However, after leaving the police I had no idea what I wanted to do and registered with a recruitment agency who proceeded to offer me a role as a recruiter. After a year I was headhunted by one of my clients to head up their internal recruitment department then was ‘encouraged’ to undertake a part time degree qualification in Human Resource Management which gave me chartered professional status and started my journey into Human Resources.

Q: Why did you start up on your own

DS: I found some of the decision making in the corporate world questionable, the lack of vision, competency and inefficiency was frustrating and I no longer enjoyed or got fulfilment from what I was doing. Plus I think it's important to enjoy what you do, learn from others, and I wanted to have ownership over who I helped, shared knowledge with and what areas I supported and focussed on.

Q: What do you enjoy most about working with Scotgrip International?

DS: First of all they are a great bunch of people, our values align, they treat everyone fairly and with respect and truly understand the value an engaged workforce has on business success. They have adapted to, and fully supported all of the changes suggested and introduced in the last year across the business plus successfully hired 2 Kick Start Trainees, introduced fit for purpose HR structure, Training and development, HR portal for storing and managing people information, plus we are about to launch a new appraisal system and a review of current employees benefits.

Q: What’s a typical day like for you?

DS: To be honest I don’t have a typical type of day and that’s one of the things I enjoy the most. I love the spontaneity of my role, there is nothing better (in my opinion) of fixing problems, or knowing that you have had a positive impact on someone. I find it easy to communicate with others and I really enjoy getting to know people and companies as that’s vital for me to ensure I’m shaping the business, creating structure and initiatives that work for them now AND for the future.

Q: What do you enjoy doing when you aren’t working?

DS: I walk my dog and have made so many good friends through this activity. I play video games, read and love any kind of social interaction, even more so after the pandemic. I’m definitely a people person and love a natter with others. I’m also on the local community Council and undertake some voluntary work mentoring and supporting others, so manage to keep myself busy and fulfilled.
