“Be resilient. Remain focussed and you’ll achieve your goals quicker.”

Today, we say hello to Mark Prise, Operations Director who joined SCOTGRIP® INTERNATIONAL in 1998.

With over 30 years’ experience working in the energy industry, Mark shares his knowledge, experience with product innovation and advice for those who aspire to work in the energy industry.

Q: How did you get into the industry?

MP: I started off as a trainee draftsperson detailing specialist pre-cast concrete units. I also went to Aberdeen Technical College and The Scott Sutherland School of Architecture. Before joining SCOTGRIP® INTERNATIONAL in 1998, I was working as a structural draftsperson designing aluminium, steelwork and reinforced concrete structures.

Q: What do you enjoy about the work you do?

MP: We have a great team at SCOTGRIP® INTERNATIONAL and I really enjoy the variation of work.

Q: What product are you most proud of and why?

MP: We designed the original anti-slip Pipewalker® many years ago, and the product was trialled and approved by a major offshore drilling contractor. There was nothing really suitable for walking, and working safely, on pipes before we designed it. We manufacture them in two versions: anti-slip pipewalker® short tread (STP) and anti-slip pipewalker® long tread (LTP).

Q: What do you find most rewarding about your work?

MP: If a client enquires about a specific product for their location, then it’s great to be able to provide a solution and design something that fixes their problem.

Q: What is a typical working day like for you?

MP: A typical day would be organising all the quotations; replying to our customers’ requests and sending out orders to the workshop for manufacture.

Q: What advice do you have for the next generation who aspire to work in the industry?

MP: Learn as much as you can. Take advice from your superiors and always give a 100%

Q: What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

MP: I enjoy spending time with my wife and two daughters. I also have a coral reef aquarium that keeps me busy.

Q: Are there any particular goals that SCOTGRIP® INTERNATIONAL has set for the next few years?

MP: The main aim for the next few years is to grow our existing business as well as launch several new products that are currently in the design phase.

Q: Any tips you would give yourself for when you first started in business?

MP: Be resilient. Remain focussed and you’ll achieve your goals quicker.
