“I find it really rewarding when I’m able to solve a customer’s request or a challenging design requirement.”

Today, we say hello to Max Cannell, Operations Technician at SCOTGRIP® INTERNATIONAL.

Max has been with us for over six years. His day to day activities change regularly, but mostly he can be found in the office doing the CAD technical drawings that support the design and manufacture of SCOTGRIP® INTERNATIONAL’s anti-slip safety products.

Q: How did you get into the industry?

MC: I studied Mechanical Engineering at university with a focus on automotive design, where I learned and worked on the design, manufacture and testing on various automotives. I had always enjoyed the design element of my studies, which led me to do Technical Drawing work after leaving university. This ultimately led to me joining SCOTGRIP® INTERNATIONAL in 2015.

Q: What do you enjoy about the work you do?

MC: I would have to say the product design process. Whether that’s working with clients to design a product for a custom requirement or with my colleagues on an entirely new product. I enjoy the challenge of designing or adapting to meet the specified requirements, it gives me a lot of freedom to problem solve and think for myself.

Q: What product are you most proud of and why?

MC: Two products stand out for me. I’m especially proud of our Rigmate® Anti-slip Drill Floor Safety Matting. I was involved in designing the layouts for this product, and I’m delighted to know that I was part of the team that designed a solution that is currently improving the safety of oil workers on rigs all over the world.

In addition, I’m also proud of our new 3D laser scanning capabilities, as it allows us to produce custom fit drill floor matting with increased accuracy and produces a great preview of the mats on a customer's drill floor.

Q: What do you find most rewarding about your work?

MC: I enjoy solving problems. I find it really rewarding when I’m able to solve a customer’s request or a challenging design requirement.

Q: What is a typical day like for you?

MC: Every day is different. When I’m not on AutoCAD, laying out drill floor matting or progressing product designs, I’m responding to customer enquiries, managing SCOTGRIP® INTERNATIONAL’s internal management system and HSE requirements.
